Q: So What To Do With A Tutu?!?
Ummm, why would anyone in their right mind want to buy a TUTU?!?

A: Ummm, the question is why WOULDN'T you!! They are so funky! Soooo cute! And the perfect addition to any little girls wardrobe or dress-up box! Think of birthday parties, dance concerts, dress-up days at kindy/school, playing dress-ups or just for wearing to the shops!

Our tutus are hard wearing, (although HAND-WASH ONLY!), versatile, and easy to wear - even my 20 month old can put hers on herself!

And the biggest reason to buy a tutu? Cause they are just so much bloody FUN!!

    Q: Nappy Speak...(ie the Lingo!)
What the heck does, AIO, MCN etc mean? And what is a gusset, booster, soaker and a "Pocket"?!

A: You know you've really entered the world of Modern Cloth Nappies when you come across these terms! They are all pretty self explanatory really, and not confusing once you become used to seeing them...

MCN - "Modern Cloth Nappy" - today's incarnation of the old faithful terry towelling square. They come in MANY designs, and you are no longer limited to scratching your scalp with nappy pins all day! Most MCNs have snaps and velcro that make it oh so easy to use them!

OSFA - "One size fits all"

    ABD - "Ankle Biters Duds"

OOAKs - "One Of A Kinds" - nappies/designs that are one offs. We prefer to use the term "Made For You".

RTGs - "Ready To Go's" - - nappies that are in stock and "ready to go"!

AIO - "All-In-One" - - A nappy that is completely self-contained - requiring, no additional cover, or "stuffing", you just pop it on your baby and your done!

Fitted Nappy - Much like an AIO but requires an additional outer waterproof cover to contain moisture.

A "Pocket" - or "Pocket Nappy" - A nappy that is constructed with an inner lining, outer cover and an opening inside that allows you to "stuff" it with absorbent fabric that will soak in the moisture. Pockets are great as you can adjust the absorbancy level easily, and they dry really fast as you remove the "stuffing" for washing.

AI2 "All-In-Two" - is just like an AIO but it has a pocket so can be stuffed for added absorbancy.

Gusset - an additional, elasticized piece of fabric added to the MCN construction, around the legs, and which is designed for "containing" any leaks and gooey bits that may try to ooze out!

Soaker - these come in two varieties. The first type is be sewn between the cover outer and inner lining and is not removable. They serve the purpose of "soaking up" the moisture (read: wee!). Whilst it may seem preferred that they be as absorbant as possible, it can be a problem if they are too absorbant and thus take FOREVER to dry after washing. Hence, the second incarnation of the soaker. This is a soaker that sits on top of the inner layer of the nappy and is either removable (due to snaps, velcro or because it just sits in place), or folds out when washing, thus reducing drying time without sacrificing absorbancy.

Booster - an additional "soaker" that can be laid in or attached to the inner of the nappy for overnight use or very heavy wetters.

    Q: For The Time Poor...
But I'm already so busy, won't I just be creating more work for myself if I switch to cloth?

A: Weeeell, maybe just a little bit! But seriously, I have 4 (almost 5) kids, and a perpetual Mt Everest of washing, and I have barely noticed the difference since making the switch. Whenever I need to change a bum, I simply tip the gooey bits into the loo, and chuck the nappy into my nappy bucket. Put the lid on and walk away!

Sometimes, you may need to give them a quick rinse under the tap when there are REALLY gooey bits, but that is rare.

When the bucket is full, I throw them in the washing machine and then hang them out to dry. (Ok, I'll admit to using the dryer more than I should!)

You don't need to bleach, soak, sterilise, or iron your nappies, and you can even wash them on a cold cycle if you like! They are basically made from the same fabrics that you wear everyday, so why treat them any differently?!

The natural bamboo fleece that we use in our nappies and soakers is hypo-allergenic, anti-bacterial and deodorising,. It has been proven that even after 50 washes, the bamboo still has great anti-bacterial and bacteriostasis qualities with over 70% of bacteria incubated on the bamboo fibre failing to survive.

    Q: Ankle Biters Nappy Fabrics
I hear so much about the fabrics used in MCNs, I'm confused!! Can you explain what fabrics Ankle Biters use, and why?

A: Ok, so here's the go...

    We use:

    a) Bamboo fleece, velour and french terry - in our AIOs, lining our nappies, in absorbant soakers and breast pads. See here for further info:

    b) Burley knit 100% cotton terry - in our AIOs, soakers and breast pads, reusable wipes.

Why? Because it is a highly absorbant, natural, breathable fabric!

    c) Minkee and Minky - on the outside of our nappies (the cover).

Why? Well, no other reason really except that it is bloody gorgeous! Perfect for when you just "have" to pat that cute little bum!

    d) 2mil Cotton PUL and 2 mil Poly PUL - on the outer of our nappies, and sometimes as a "hidden layer" between the inner (lining) layer of the nappy and the outer (cover) layer.

Why? PUL (Polyurethane Laminate) is fabric that has been coated on one side with a laminate that creates a waterproof barrier and is ideal for preventing leaks from nappies. The Polyester PUL has a slight stretch to it and both the cotton and poly come in a great range of prints, so can make your nappies look really cool and as a result is perfect for great looking, waterproof covers!

    e) A variety of weights of high quality Polar Fleece 100% Polyester - on the outer layer of our nappies, and also on the top layer of our soakers. Water-repelling so wicks moisture away from the skin, keeping it feelin dry, even when the nappy is full! Comes in a variety of thicknesses and some great prints, so can be used to wonderful effect on the outside of the nappy to prevent leaks and to look bright and funky!

    f) Microfleece 100% Polyester - Thinner than polar fleece and beeeeautifully soft! So gorgeous for breast pads and nappy liners/linings. Keeps skin dry and feels ultra soft.

    g) Cotton flannelette - 100% cotton fabric that is easy to source and available in a myriad of great colours and prints. Perfect for jazzing up the inside of your nappies.
